Buckner Fanning Christian School provides an exceptional and challenging academic program in which we strive to help our students learn to love and love to learn. We recognize that children are unique individuals, each with his or her own special gifts and talents. It is our responsibility to help our students recognize, enhance and employ those gifts for a productive Christian life.
We offer a solid foundation of basic academic skills, as well as enrichment and extension beyond the basics. In addition, we stress the Three Rs for a happy and productive life: Reverence for God and all of His creation, Respect for one's self and one's fellow man, and Responsibility for contributing to making this a better world.
We begin our academic program by developing a positive learning environment. The faculty is committed to the requirement that all of our students display good manners and proper, respectful behavior, both of which are necessary for an orderly learning environment. We recognize that all children, regardless of the level of academic talents and abilities, are capable of meeting the high standards of behavior we require.
Once the appropriate learning environment is set, we strive to teach and model the necessity for a strong work ethic, self-discipline, pride in trying to do one's best and accepting responsibility for one's own actions. In addition, we seek to share with our students the true joy of learning as a life-long experience, not just a school experience. Parents are asked to partner with us in reinforcing these traits that are so important for helping children learn the path to success in life's many endeavors.
Another of our goals is to help children develop a positive self-concept. We believe that children develop genuine positive self-esteem through the self-respect they generate as a result of hard work, correct behavior and pride in accomplishments achieved because of the effort put forth to do their very best.
Buckner Fanning Christian School offers a solid foundation of basic academic skills and content in the areas of reading, mathematics, language arts, history, geography, science, health and Spanish. Physical education, art, music, computer science, Christian education and SOAR classes extend and enrich the basic academic program. The school utilizes a variety of the best materials available in our classrooms. We strive to teach not only content and skills, but also learning process involving creative, critical and analytical thinking, decision-making and problem-solving.
The school has adopted the Core Knowledge Foundation's curriculum, titled "Core Knowledge Sequence," developed by Dr. E.D. Hirsch Jr. The course of study is the result of a long process of research and consensus-building by the Core Knowledge Foundation of Charlottesville, Virginia, an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization. The content is specifically a core of shared knowledge that children should learn in American schools. It has often been referred to as the foundation for a great classical education. Trinity University's Education Department houses the Texas Core Knowledge Center and is a leader in the Core Knowledge Program being implemented in many Texas schools.
In addition to the academic offerings, we work very hard to create a love for learning, provide individual attention in order to meet each child's needs, maintain orderly and respectful learning environments, while holding high expectations regarding responsibility for one's work and quality of work produced. Our staff takes very seriously the responsibility of being positive role models in all aspects of our lives.
