  • The common purpose of robotics programs in primary schools is to introduce and excite children about opportunities in the fields of science, engineering, and technology.
We will create an environment fostering critical thinking, problem-solving techniques and communication within a team through hands-on robot building activities. To facilitate our projects, we will be using the LEGO Mindstorms NXT v2.0 robotics kit.
There are three primary organizations hosting robot competitions, GEAR, FIRST LEGO League, and Robofest. Each of these organizations hosts competitions with rules and challenges of varying complexity. We will start our first year (2010-11) with the goal of entering one or more teams into the GEAR competition hosted at UTSA in April. In coming years, we hope to participate in the other competitions, as well.
