Dear BFCS Parents,
I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have made the commitment to return to our school for the upcoming year.
I realize this is a very important commitment in your life as it impacts greatly on your children. Buckner Fanning is a small school
and sits in the triangle of three mega public elementary schools. There are many advantages to enrolling in this small
country-type, Christian school. As Head of School, I am convinced that BFCS is the best investment for your child.
I would like to take this opportunity to share those with you.
First and foremost, I strongly believe that this is an educational journey, not a race. At BFCS, we make sure God is in that journey. We start each day praying the Lord’s Prayer, learning about His Word, praising God through song and pledging allegiance to our flag. Christian Education is taught in the classroom, not only in singular lessons, but throughout the day in all we do and say. Our children are treated with respect and kindness. We believe in discipline not punishment. Corrective measures are always carried out in light of Biblical principles and the love of Jesus Christ.
Another advantage we have here at BFCS is our small class sizes. We are committed to keeping the class sizes low. There are grades that may have larger populations; they are still considerably smaller than the average public school class ranging from 22 to 26 students. Our teachers offer 1:1 tutoring after school when students require help or enriched activities. Our teachers are always available to discuss your child. Over 60% of our teachers hold Masters Degrees and all of them are certified in the areas that they teach.
Buckner Fanning is an Official Core Knowledge Visitation School, standing as an example to other schools who are considering becoming a Core Knowledge schools. We base our curriculum on ongoing research that supports the newest and most fundamental principles of education. Our curriculum is solid, specific, sequenced and shared. This is evidenced by the progress our students make while here at BFCS and the advanced placements they receive when they leave us.
I also feel our students have been very blessed by the partnership with Incarnate Word University which affords our hardworking students the ability to earn up to $20,000 in scholarship money over the course of their high school and college careers.
I am also very proud to report that we are on the accreditation trail. It is recommended that schools wait until they have been established for ten years before applying. We have started the process of reviewing the standards and starting the process. If you would like to speak with me or Marty about the future or your child at BFCS please contact me or stop by.
God bless,
John
Parent participation at BFCS is not only valued but also necessary to maintain a successful campus. Therefore, we encourage all parents to become involved in supporting the school through helping with planning and carrying out special celebrations and activities, serving as room mothers, assisting in the lunchroom, campus beautification, sponsoring clubs and organizations that meet after school, working with community service projects, assisting with fund-raising efforts and driving on field trips.
Of course, these are just a few suggestions; you may have other talents that you would like to contribute to our school. We know that everyone is very busy and that some are even single working parents; however, there are still ways you can contribute your time. Offer to do things at home for your child/children's teacher or for the front office. Every little bit helps!
If you feel that you are just not able to provide your time or talents, a monetary donation would be greatly appreciated.
We are asking for every parent to commit to doing at least five hours of parent participation each nine weeks. This not only helps the teachers and staff but it enables us to cut expenses, which, in turn, saves you tuition dollars.
We would like to keep this as a volunteer system rather than required participation hours, but we need everyone's commitment to be successful. Therefore, please think about this and what you can do to enhance your child/children's education and campus. If you would like your hours of participation documented, we can certainly put a system in place and eventually add it to our website.
